The takeaway

All five major European markets improved their overall readiness scores, although important differences remained.

The quarterly picture

The final quarter of 2024 brought improvements across the European Big 5 in the Sophus3 EV Index.

The UK finished at 47, Germany and France at 45, Spain at 30 and Italy at 25. The Netherlands reached 76, while Norway remained above the parity threshold.

Read beyond the headline

The index separates consumer interest, affordability and choice, and charging infrastructure. Progress in one dimension does not mean the other barriers have disappeared.

The UK’s end-of-year momentum came alongside strong manufacturer incentives. France had substantial charging provision but more limited movement in adoption, illustrating why infrastructure alone is not the answer.

This is historical research for Q4 2024. Policy expectations and model-launch forecasts in the original report should be read in their original time context, not as current guidance.
