A historical analysis separates attention around Tesla’s CEO from the brand’s longer-term sales trajectory.
Attention and demand are different
Our February 2025 analysis found a mixed picture. News surrounding Elon Musk’s political activity coincided with greater search curiosity and traffic to Tesla’s European websites.
Sales share, however, was declining. Sophus3 noted that this decline had begun earlier, with competition in electric vehicles and the erosion of Tesla’s first-mover advantage providing important context.
Avoid a simple causal story
More attention does not necessarily mean more purchase intent. Equally, a sales decline during a news cycle does not establish that the news caused it.
This archive article records the evidence and interpretation available in February 2025. It does not assess later political events or Tesla’s present market position.
