The second briefing paper provides a baseline for understanding how new entrants’ European websites have evolved.
A late-2022 snapshot
Sophus3 surveyed 14 groups or brands across nine European markets. Researchers identified 56 active websites from 126 possible brand-market combinations.
Just over half offered a configurator, while roughly a third referenced vehicle finance. Three quarters used a conventional dealer-based retail channel, and four offered a full ecommerce capability.
Presence is not readiness
A live website does not necessarily provide all the information and tools needed to support a purchase. The study examined practical capabilities, from model pricing and finance information to test-drive requests.
Use the archive as a baseline
These findings describe the late-2022 survey, not the brands’ present capabilities. The original was updated in January 2023 to reflect changes at selected BYD websites. Read alongside later challenger-brand research to understand how quickly the landscape has moved.
