Sophus3’s updated review of Chinese automotive brands in Europe examined both market-entry strategy and the development of their digital footprint. The research identified more than forty-five active or potential entrants and analysed websites for 17 brands across 13 European markets.

The study found a gradual market-entry pattern, with many brands using smaller or EV-friendly markets as launch points before scaling. Most relied on conventional dealer networks, although ecommerce was becoming more common.

Digital findings

The research found 86 active sites across the markets reviewed. Polestar had the broadest presence, while Sweden had the highest number of Chinese brand websites. Core site functionality was improving, but there were still gaps in some areas.

Chinese brands’ digital audience share was still relatively small in much of Europe, but growth was rapid in several markets. The work reinforced the importance of tracking market-by-market demand rather than treating “Chinese brands” as one homogeneous group.
